Canzonetta Children's Choirs

Canzonetta Children’s Choirs were formed in September 2007, in response to a perceived need for high quality young choral groups serving the South Manchester and North Cheshire areas. They consist of a Boys’ choir, a Girls’ choir and the Junior Singers training group. The choirs are based for rehearsal purposes at Withington Girls School.

Music Director Jeffrey Wynn Davies has extensive experience as a high profile choral director. His current choirs include Canzonetta, former BBC Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year, and the 250 strong South of England Festival Chorus. Sam Gardner is Assistant Director of the famous Chapter House Choir of York, and has tutored for the National Youth Training Choir.

The Children have already performed in Manchester Cathedral and in St Ann’s Church in the City Centre. They also recently performed John Rutter’s Mass of the Children and Bob Chilcott’s Songs and Cries of London Town in the Arts Centre, Withington Girls School, and in Derbyshire with Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir. They have had a full programme of Christmas concerts in 2008, and gave three performances in Jersey in May 2009. As they extend their membership numbers and repertoire, further prestigious performances are planned.

• Run in conjunction with Canzonetta Chamber Choir, former BBC Sainsbury’s Choir of the Year.
• Music team of six, including leading young choral conductors/tutors.
